history

Jackson

Jackson County was formed on February 11, 1796 as the 22nd County in Georgia from parts of Franklin County. It was named after James Jackson , a General in the Revolutionary War, member of Congress and Senator.

The Jackson County Courthouse was built in 1879 and is an example of neoclassical architecture at the time. The clock tower was added in 1906. In 1978 the building was completely renovated.

In March 2019, Jackson County got into the media because the county paid $ 400,000 to hackers , presumably from Russia , who had crippled the county's PC systems with ransomware (blackmail software). After paying the requested amount, the circle received the decryption code and the network could be activated. It takes two and a half weeks to fix all of the damage.
