The Walton County is a county in the state of Georgia to the United States . The county seat is Monroe .

The county is located in north-central Georgia and covers an area of 855 square kilometers, of which two square kilometers are water surface, and is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Oconee County , Morgan County , Newton County , Rockdale County , Gwinnett County, and Barrow County .
The county is part of the metropolitan area of Atlanta .
history
Walton County was formed in 1818 as the 46th County of Georgia. It was named after George Walton , a signer of the Declaration of Independence and later Governor of Georgia and US Senator.

According to the 2010 census, the then 83,768 inhabitants were distributed over 29,583 inhabited households, which gives an average of 2.81 people per household. There are a total of 32,435 households.
77.5% of the households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or one parent with offspring) with an average size of 3.19 persons. There were children under the age of 18 in 40.7% of all households and persons aged 65 or over in 24.7% of all households.
29.4% of the population were younger than 20 years, 24.4% were 20 to 39 years old, 28.5% were 40 to 59 years old, and 17.7% were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 37 years. 48.7% of the population were male and 51.3% were female.
80.1% of the population identified themselves as whites, 15.6% as African-Americans , 0.3% as Indians, and 1.1% as Asian Americans . 1.5% said they belonged to another ethnic group and 1.5% to several ethnic groups. 3.2% of the population was made up of Hispanics or Latinos .
The average annual income per household was 54,459 USD , while 13.2% of the population lived below the poverty line.
