history
The Achental was an important link from the Inn Valley to Bavaria as early as the Middle Ages . The road on the Achensee was set up as early as 1482 and had been tolled since 1495 . Around 1570 the improvement of the road was demanded, but this was rejected by the princely chamber in order not to harm the traffic through the Inn valley and not to impair the hunting in the Achental. Due to the poor condition of the road on the steep lakeshore, wagons were transported by ships between the south and north banks until the middle of the 19th century.
From 1915 this road was repaired to the point that it could be used by motor vehicles. In 1938, construction work began on the construction of a modern car road, which, however, had to be closed due to the war in 1942. The Seehoftunnel, which is currently under construction, was used for armaments production by the Messerschmitt works during World War II .
The Achenseestrasse heard since 1 January 1949 to the network of federal roads in Austria . Shortly afterwards, the expansion into a modern street began, which was completed in several stages:
- The Seehoftunnel was opened on September 23, 1950.
- On May 25, 1955, the winding serpentine road from Wiesing via the Kanzelkehre to Maurach was opened to traffic.
- From 1956 to 1961, the Maurach - Achenkirch section was expanded into a modern road.
- By 1964, the northern section from Achenkirch to the state border at the Kaiserwacht was also completed.
On May 15, 2002, the Tyrolean state parliament changed the spelling to Achenseestrasse .

B181 | Like the other former federal highways, Achenseestrasse was part of the federal administration. Since April 1, 2002, it has been under state administration and continues to have the B in the number, but not the name Bundesstraße. |
