history

The first written mention as Mertzhausen goes back to the year 1346, probably derived from the name Martin or Meinhard. In 1579 the place had nine houses and in 1793 23 houses. To the west or north-west of the place were formerly roof slate pits, called "Schieferkaul". The mine to the northwest was mentioned as early as 1685. Jakon, Leyendecker von Marzhausen, had already covered the church in Hachenburg with new cover; Leyensteine were brought from Marzhausen to build a watchtower in Hachenburg in 1749 and to build the new Katharinenkirche in 1775 . Slate mining continued from 1840 to 1893. After the Second World War, all traces were removed. By 1740 at the latest, the word had a winter school.

There was an old courtyard ( deserted area ) on today's Cologne-Frankfurter Strasse , of which only the field name "Ahle Hoff" testifies today.
