- January 13th : The Metropolitan Opera in New York City broadcasts the first opera broadcast in radio history that also features Enrico Caruso's voice.

- 25 June : Igor Stravinsky's ballet L'Oiseau de feu ( The Firebird ) with conductor Gabriel Pierné premiered in Paris by Sergei Pavlovich Djagilev's Ballets Russes . The libretto by Michel Fokine based on two Russian folk tales. The piece becomes the composer's first success.

- September 6th : The world premiere of the string orchestra piece Tallis-Fantasie by Ralph Vaughan Williams takes place in Gloucester .
- September 12 : The world premiere of the 8th Symphony by Gustav Mahler ( Symphony of a Thousand ) takes place in Munich .

- January 14 : The world premiere of George-Lieder op.15 by Arnold Schönberg based on poems by Stefan George takes place in Vienna.
Opera
- February 19 : One of Jules Massenet's last operas , Don Quichotte with the libretto by Henri Cain based on the novel Don Quixote by Miguel de Cervantes , is premiered in Monte Carlo with Fyodor Ivanovich Chalyapin in the title role. The opera was a great success from the start and will soon be performed across Europe.
- 27 February : The opera The Captain's Daughter by César Cui is premiered at the Mariinsky Theater in Saint Petersburg .
- September 18 : The world premiere of the opera Liebelei by Franz Neumann takes place in Frankfurt am Main.
- November 20 : The world premiere of the opera Semirama by Ottorino Respighi takes place in Bologna.
- November 30th : The opera Macbeth by Ernest Bloch with a French libretto by Edmond Fleg is premiered at the Opéra-Comique in Paris . The work is received mixed by the audience - partly due to anti-Semitic moods.
- December 10 : Conducted by Arturo Toscanini made at the Metropolitan Opera in New York, the world premiere of the opera La Fanciulla del West (The Girl of the Golden West) by Giacomo Puccini on the eponymous play by David Belasco .
- December 28 : The second version of Engelbert Humperdinck's melodramatic opera Königskinder with the revised libretto by Elsa Bernstein and conducted by Alfred Hertz is premiered at the Metropolitan Opera in New York . The original version premiered in Munich in 1897 .

- January 8 : The world premiere of the operetta Zigeunerliebe by Franz Lehár takes place at the Carltheater in Vienna . The libretto is by Alfred Maria Willner and Robert Bodanzky . However, Lehár cannot quite build on the success of The Merry Widow from 1905 with this piece .
- February 26 : The operetta Die chaste Susanne by Jean Gilbert is premiered at the Wilhelm Theater in Magdeburg .
- April 2nd : The world premiere of the operetta The Last Jonas by Rudolf Dellinger takes place at the Residenztheater in Dresden .
- July 22nd : The operetta Vindobona, du marvelous city (Venice in Vienna) by Leo Ascher is premiered in Vienna .
- October 14 : The operetta The Immortal Lump by Edmund Eysler has its world premiere at the Vienna Citizens' Theater with overwhelming success . Felix Dörmann wrote the libretto .
- October 28th : World premiere of the operetta Das Glücksmädel by Robert Stolz in the Raimundtheater in Vienna.
- November 3 : The operetta Der pious Silvanus by Leo Ascher is premiered in Vienna .
- November 19 : The world premiere of the operetta The Beautiful Risette by Leo Fall takes place in Vienna. In the same year, the operetta Das Puppenmädel also by Leo Fall comes out.
