Bidestroff (German Biedesdorf ) is a French commune with 129 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Moselle department in the Grand Est region (until 2015 Lorraine ). It belongs to the arrondissement of Sarrebourg-Château-Salins , to the canton of Le Saulnois and to the communal association Communauté de communes du Saulnois .

Bidestroff is located in the Saulnois , 76 kilometers northwest of Strasbourg , about 56 kilometers southeast of Metz , 23 kilometers northwest of Sarrebourg and 6.4 kilometers northeast of the canton capital Dieuze , between the neighboring communities of Bassing in the northeast, Bourgaltroff in the northwest and Zommange in the south, on one Height between 210 and 275 meters above sea level, the mean height is 240 meters. The municipality covers 7.95 square kilometers.

history

Bidestroff was first mentioned in 1121 as villa de Buderstorf cum ecclesia (Buderstorf estate with church). 1262 it emerged as Buderstorff in Kopialbuch the castellany of Albestroff on. 1266 was Curtis de Benderstorff in a document from Two Bridges called, 1476 Huwestorff in a document from Dieuze. It was first called Biderstroff in 1623 . The village belonged to the Bailliage of Dieuze and became a barony in 1722 .

In 1793 Bidestroff received as Biderstroff in the course of the French Revolution (1789-1799) the status of a municipality and in 1801, also as Biderstroff , the right to local self-government. From 1801 to 1871 it belonged to the former Meurthe department , which was renamed the Meurthe-et-Moselle department in 1871 . In 1871 the community was incorporated into the newly created realm of Alsace-Lorraine of the German Empire due to changes in territory due to the course of the Franco-German War (1870–1871) . The realm of Alsace-Lorraine existed until the end of the First World War (1914–1918) and was then dissolved. Bidestroff was in the Moselle department at that time, this change was retained in 1918, when Moselle was again assigned to France.

During the First World War (1914-1918) parts of the village were destroyed.

The municipality's coat of arms shows three golden pointed arches on a blue background. It is the coat of arms of the Philibert family, who previously owned a Seigneurie in Bidestroff.

Attractions

Bidestroff Castle was built in the 16th century. The facades, the roof and the dovecote were entered in the supplementary directory of Monuments historiques in 1990 . The castle is privately owned.

The Saint-Michel church was built in 1879, destroyed in 1914 and rebuilt in 1920.
