Venice International Film Festival 2015
The 72nd Venice International Film Festival ( Italian 72nd Mostra Internazionale d'Arte Cinematografica ) took place from September 2nd to 12th, 2015. Alongside the Berlinale and the Cannes International Film Festival, they are among the three most important A festivals in the world and were directed for the fourth time by Alberto Barbera .
The film festival opened with Baltasar Kormákurs Everest , which was shown out of competition in the competition for the Golden Lion . The main prize of the competition went to Lorenzo Vigas ' film Desde allá .
Bertrand Tavernier and Brian De Palma were honored with special prizes . The French film director and screenwriter Tavernier, who competed twice in vain for the main prize in 1986 with At Midnight (Pasinetti Prize) and 1992 with Auf opener Straße , was honored with the Golden Lion for the life's work of a filmmaker. This honor goes hand in hand with a position as guest director of the Venezia Classici (Venice Classics) series , in which Tavernier will present a selection of rare, forgotten or underrated films. The American film director Brian De Palma was honored with a special prize, the Jaeger-LeCoultre Glory to the Filmmaker Award . He had competed four times in the competition for the Golden Lion and in 2007 received a Silver Lion for Redacted . The award went hand in hand with the world premiere of the documentary De Palma by Noah Baumbach and Jake Paltrow .

The official festival poster was presented in early June 2015 and is dedicated to the art house film . Drawn by the Italian animation filmmaker Simone Massi , there is a blonde woman in the foreground who is supposed to remind of Nastassja Kinski ( Paris, Texas ). The figure of Antoine Doinel (played by Jean-Pierre Léaud ) can be seen in the background , based on the last take from François Truffaut's film They kissed and they beat him (1959). Doinel had also been the godfather of last year's festival poster. Both this year's poster and those from the previous years 2012 to 2014 are intended to create a mise-en-abyme effect for the viewer and tell a little story with references to numerous films.
In 2015, in the 100th year of Mario Monicelli's birth (1915–2010), the film festival commemorated the filmmaker with the screening of a restored version of Vogliamo i colonnelli (1973) and the art project “Fantasmi”. For the project, Monicelli's long-time partner, the artist Chiara Rapaccini (better known under the stage name "RAP") reworked unpublished recordings from the 1960s to 1990s showing the filmmaker on the set. Monicelli had originally wanted to throw the documents away.
The Italian-French actress Elisa Sednaoui has been selected to host the opening and closing ceremonies.
