Berlin - Fateful Years of a City is a documentary series by Rundfunk Berlin-Brandenburg that has been broadcast on rbb television for the first time since 2018 . The series deals with contemporary Berlin history from 1961 into the 21st century. Each calendar year is dealt with in a 90-minute sequence. This makes the series the most detailed chronicle of this kind on German television. The episodes consist of historical films from the SFB / RBB archive and the German Broadcasting Archive , which are supplemented by retrospective interviews with contemporary witnesses. They are commented on by Katharina Thalbach , Katja Riemann , Katrin Sass , Anna Thalbach and Jasmin Tabatabai .

Originally the production with 29 episodes was planned over the years 1961 to 1989. Due to the great audience success, the production followed two more seasons until 2009. The programs have an above-average market share for Rundfunk Berlin-Brandenburg.
