Stein-Wingert is a municipality in the Westerwaldkreis in Rhineland-Palatinate . The residential community belongs to the Hachenburg association.

geography

The community is located in the Westerwald between Limburg and Siegen , on the Nister in the middle of Kroppacher Switzerland .

Districts are Wingert, Stein, Alhausen and Altburg. Neighboring places of Stein and Wingert are in the northeast Burbach (Mörsbach) , in the east Mörsbach , in the south Giesenhausen and Kroppach . Idelberg , already 1 km away in the Altenkirchen district , can only be reached on foot. The districts of Alhausen and Altburg are in the northwest of Stein-Wingert and can be reached on foot via hiking trails or the road to Burbach.

history

In the 12th century, Stein-Wingert initially belonged to the Nister manor. Already at the beginning of the 13th century, the place came to the Saynian rule, 1649/71 to Sayn-Hachenburg with which it fell to Nassau-Weilburg in 1799 . In 1806 Stein-Wingert came to the Duchy of Nassau , from 1866 in Prussia to the Province of Hesse-Nassau .

Wingert

The place is first mentioned in 1408 as Wyngenroide . The name, which indicates clearing activity and probably a personal name, was ground to Wingert in the 18th century . In 1579 Wingert had eleven houses, in 1624 eight and in 1669 six fireplaces. In 1793 there are 76 inhabitants. From 1763 to 1832 the operation of one or two oil mills is guaranteed. In 1764 a mine ( ore mine Silberschnur ) is mentioned in Wingert . A few miners worked there until 1913. A poor house was later built on the dump of the pit. The Concordia lead and iron ore mine was located 700 m north of Wingert .

stone

William, Lord of Reichenstein donated in 1451 to the Abbey Marienstatt the tithe , u. a the "zom Steyne" . This name is probably to be interpreted as the development of the first huts on rocky ground or as a reference to a stone defense structure. Stein formed a community with Wingert as early as 1635; In 1579 Stein had four houses and in 1793 six. As a ban mill for the villages of Stein-Wingert, Giesenhausen and Mörsbach , the Steiner Mühle , 100 m northwest of Stein, was built in 1744 . At first, the mill was supplied with water with the partially still existing mill moat. Later they drove a tunnel through the mountain to the Nister. The mill was owned by the manor and was leased on a permanent basis. It was in operation as a customer mill until 1950 and is still used to generate electricity today. The old linden tree at the mill is a natural monument . For the year 1579 there are four stone houses, for 1669 five smokers, for 1746 seven houses and for 1808 104 inhabitants.

Alhausen

For the same reason as Stein, the district was first mentioned in 1451 as Aldeshausen . As a -hausen settlement, it probably goes back to the 8th or 9th century. From ancient times there was only one way to Alhausen; therefore the place is called at the end of the world . In 1579 there were four houses there, in 1669 three smokers and in 1793 40 inhabitants. There are three half-timbered houses and a barn from the 18th century. 700 m north of Alhausen there was an iron ore mine on the border brook to the Altenkirchen district, reminiscent of spoil heaps and slag.

Altburg

Like Stein and Alhausen, the hamlet was first mentioned in 1451 as "zor Alderburgh" ; the name of the place was established over Altenburg in the 18th century at Altburg . The name refers to an old fortification. Altburg consisted of two houses in 1579 and three in 1793. In the village there are two old half-timbered houses, one of which is dated 1780 .
