geography

The community is located in the Westerwald between Limburg and Siegen .

Nistertal consists of the districts of Büdingen with the Büdinger Mühle residential area and Erbach with the Birkenhof and Talhof residential areas (dialect: Bejrenge and Äärwisch ).

history

Büdingen was first mentioned in a document in 1274. Erbach was first mentioned in 1353.

Büdingen belonged to the parish and court of Rotenhain from the second half of the 15th century at the latest . The place was detached from the parish in 1563 in the course of the Reformation and parish changed to Marienberg . In 1719 the construction of a mill on the Nister near Büdingen was allowed. Their designation "New Mill" indicates an older, nearby mill.

In 1922 the church Assumptionis B Mariae V was built in the village. The following year the place left the parish of Rotenhain and became a parish vicarie .

The municipality of Nistertal was re-formed on June 7, 1969 in the course of the Rhineland-Palatinate administrative reform from the dissolved municipalities of Büdingen (558 inhabitants) and Erbach (Westerwald) (599 inhabitants). The Great Nister , which flows between the two places, has formed a political, linguistic and denominational border for centuries. The geographical name Nistertal was as a brand name in the neighboring even before the establishment of the municipality of the same knowledge -based commercial vehicle manufacturer Nistertal Walter Niepenberg Maschinenfabrik used.

coat of arms

Coat of arms of Nistertal
Blasonierung : "Split in the shaft section and divided up front in blue, a silver hexagon, is a black hammer and chisel , above the back of gold, a green alder branch with two leaves and three fruits left, down a growing dreirundbogige bridge to the division in confused colors . "
Justification of the coat of arms: The two top coat of arms figures represent the two districts of Büdingen and Erbach. The hexagon and the mountain hammers symbolize the rich basalt deposits and its mining as a characteristic industry and source of income for the community. The alder branch interprets the district name Erbach as Erlenbach . The split shows the location of the municipality on the Nister, Büdingen on the left and Erbach on the right. The bridge that fills the lower part of the coat of arms is a symbol for the Erbacher bridge and the road bridge between the districts. The colors gold and blue are the colors of the Nassau coat of arms. They indicate that the municipality has belonged to the territory for centuries.

The railway bridge over the Nister near Erbach was the largest concrete bridge in Germany when it was completed in 1911 . With a length of around 300 m and a height of almost 40 m, at that time still built without steel reinforcement , it was considered a technological wonder. After the Erbach – Fehl-Ritzhausen railway was closed in 1971 for passenger traffic, the Erbacher Bridge was preserved as a technical monument . The "water bridge" is also worth mentioning. At this bridge, the water is directed over the tracks from the Nistertal-Bad Marienberg line.
