Mairie Gorges

Gorges ( Picard : Gorge ) is a northern French municipality with 40 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Somme in the region of Hauts-de-France . The municipality is located in the Arrondissement of Amiens and is part of the Communauté de communes du Territoire Nord Picardie and the canton of Doullens .

geography

Gorges is about three kilometers southeast of Bernaville and 15 kilometers southwest of Doullens . The community is traversed by a deeply cut, from northeast to southwest running channel, from which the place name is derived.

history

In 1185, Bernard de Saint-Valéry was lord of the place. In 1199, Bernard de Gorges donated a third of the tithe income to the monks of Épécamps , whose priory owned numerous estates in Gorges.

The allied landing site Gorges, which is occasionally associated with the community, is likely to be assigned to another Gorges (near Carentan in the south of the Cotentin peninsula ).
