The Federal Republic of Germany joined the 1976 Summer Olympics in Canadian Montreal with a delegation of 290 athletes, including 257 men and 33 women. Germany took fourth place in the medal table with 10 gold, 12 silver and 17 bronze medals . The standard bearer at the opening ceremony was the rider Hans Günter Winkler .
