Berneuil ( Picard : Bèrneu ) is a northern French municipality with 257 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Somme in the region of Hauts-de-France . The municipality is located in the arrondissement of Amiens , is part of the Communauté de communes du Territoire North Picardie and belongs to the canton of Doullensu .

The municipality is located around four kilometers northeast of Domart-en-Ponthieu and five kilometers south of Bernaville .

Toponymy and History

The place, referred to as Bernoldiacum in old documents, belonged to the Corbie Abbey in the 7th century . The first lord of Berneuil, Bernard de Saint-Valéry, Baron von Domard, had a permanent house built around 1175. After disputes with Count Jean de Ponthieu, King Louis VII had the dispute resolved by a duel in Corbie. The rulership changed several times until the 18th century.
