List of jazz standards and compositions

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Thelonious Monk - 'Round About Midnight , one of the most famous jazz standards

This article provides an alphabetical list of popular and lesser-known jazz standards and jazz compositions. It does not claim to be complete, but can be updated on an ongoing basis. The respective composer (abbreviated: M) and, if applicable, lyricist (abbreviated: T) are indicated afterwards. The texts are usually English; if not, this is noted in brackets. The respective individual articles contain more details about the composers and, if applicable, pieces. When sorting, the article (eg "A" or "The") may not be taken into account, but the first letter of the word after the article counts. This avoids duplicate entries.

The article “ Jazz Standard ” contains a definition and a more detailed description of this musical genre as a whole. The Jazz section of the Improvisation article explains how jazz musicians also improvise using standards. The article Jazzharmonik provides the necessary theoretical background knowledge for this. See the article on the Great American Songbook for more information .
