Geographical location
The community is located in the Westerwald east of Koblenz on the edge of the Nassau Nature Park . The village is characterized by agriculture and commuters to the nearby regional center of Koblenz.

history
Simmern was first mentioned in 1198 as Sevenburnen . Until the beginning of the 19th century it belonged to the Electorate of Trier , Amt Ehrenbreitstein . Through the Reichsdeputationshauptschluss Simmern came with the office of Ehrenbreitstein in 1803 to the Principality of Nassau-Weilburg and from 1806 to the Duchy of Nassau and in 1816 was assigned to the Nassau Office of Montabaur . The transition to the Kingdom of Prussia followed in 1866 (from 1867 in the Unterwesterwaldkreis ). Simmern has belonged to the state of Rhineland-Palatinate since 1946 and to the newly formed Westerwaldkreis since 1974.

Jörg Haseneier (CDU) became the local mayor of Simmern in 2004. In the direct election on May 26, 2019, he was confirmed in office for a further five years with a share of 65.29% of the votes.

The description of the coat of arms reads: The wave pile with the seven wave peaks refers to the place name Simmern, whose original name Sevenburnen can be interpreted as "seven springs, wells, water tanks ". The red bar cross indicates that Simmern belonged to the Electorate of Trier until 1803 and the golden lion in blue also to the Duchy of Nassau from 1806 to 1866.
