Complete medal table

The 7th European Athletics Championships took place from September 12 to 16, 1962 in Belgrade , Yugoslavia .

Attendees

As in the previous European Championships, Germany took part with a joint team that was recruited from corresponding eliminations between the GDR and the Federal Republic of Germany . The separate listing of athletes from the two associations, as found in some overviews of results, is not correct. It was the last joint start of the two German associations DLV - Germany West - and DVfL - Germany East - at the European Athletics Championships. After the Olympic Games in 1964 , when there was an all-German team for the last time, the GDR and FR Germany each competed with their own teams.

Competitions

There were no changes in the competition program at these European Championships.

Athletic performance

The athletes from the USSR were far ahead of all other nations with thirteen gold medals in the medal ranking. Great Britain followed with five EM titles. The German athletes were four times, the Polish three times at the top of the podium.

There were no new championship records in only eight disciplines. This makes the once again high performance level very clear at these European championships.

For orientation and classification of the performances, the scores achieved in 1985 according to the current rating system are also listed for comparison. However, nothing would have changed in terms of the placements. Of course, these comparisons are only indicative, because the different standards of the time must apply as a basis.
