The J.League Division 2 2004 was the sixth season of the Japanese J.League Division 2 . Twelve clubs took part in it. The season began on March 13th and ended on November 27th, 2004, the relegation games played for the first time with the table sixteenth in Division 1 2004 were played on December 4th and 12th.

Champion and thus promoted to J.League Division 1 2005 was Kawasaki Frontale . In addition to Kawasaki, the runner-up Ōmiya Ardija also rose. The third-placed Avispa Fukuoka failed in the relegation in two games to Kashiwa Reysol and remained in the league.

mode

The season was played in a double double round tournament, the clubs played four times against each other, twice at home and twice away; a total of 44 games per team resulted. There were three points for a win and one point for a draw. The table was created according to the following criteria:

  3. Goals scored
  4. Results of the games among themselves
  5. Decision game or coin toss

The two clubs with the most points were promoted to the J.League Division 1 2005 at the end of the season . The table third played with the table sixteenth of the J.League Division 1 2004 in a two-way round for another place in Division 1. A total of twelve teams took part in the season. In the relegation for a place in the J.League Division 1 for the coming season, which was held for the first time, Avispa Fukuoka, third in the table, met sixteenth in the overall table in Division 1 2004, Kashiwa Reysol . The two games were altogether a one-sided affair; after goals from Harutaka Ōno and Tatsuya Yazawa for Reysol in the first leg held in Fukuoka, Yūji Unozawa and Yasuhiro Hato made it clear that the favorites were not relegated a week later in front of their home crowd.
