The Somme in L'Étoile

L'Étoile ( Picard : L'Étoèle ) is a northern French municipality with 1194 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Somme in the region of Hauts-de-France . The municipality is located in the arrondissement of Amiens and belongs to the canton of Flixecourt .

geography

L'Étoile is located on the right bank of the Somme around four kilometers west of Flixecourt and extends north over the A16 autoroute . The southern municipal boundary towards Flixecourt is the Nièvre river .

history

In L'Étoile, in the direction of Long, stood the Neolithic Champ de Bataille . There was a Gallic oppidum (Camp de César) on the hill above the town .

A Merovingian cemetery was found in 1817. From 1146 (or 1165) there was a Benedictine double monastery of the Congregation of Fontrevaud in Moréaucourt, which was moved to Amiens in 1635 and which is still reminiscent of the L'Abbaye farm today.

During the Second World War , the place was evacuated in May 1940. He was awarded the Croix de guerre .

On the banks of the Somme is the Les Moulins Bleus factory complex with a rail connection from Flixecourt (former textile factory).
