  • Mumbai / India : Nirav Modi, who founded the diamond jewelery house of the same name in 2010, is on the run and is wanted by the Indian Federal Police ( CBI) . Together with his uncle Mehul Choksi, they are said to be involved in a fraud case worth around 1.8 billion US dollars. The state-run Punjab National Bank (PNB) lost considerable value on the stock exchange as it guaranteed the loans from Modi. The damage amounts to around a third of the bank's total market capitalization.
  • Zurich / Switzerland : At the 132nd Annual General Meeting, the International Football Association Board unanimously resolves to include video evidence and the use of video assistant referees in the football rules.

  • Đà Nẵng / Vietnam : For the first time since the end of the Vietnam War , an American aircraft carrier with around 5,000 seafarers will visit the port city of Đà Nẵng until March 9, as part of the "naval diplomacy" with the USS Carl Vinson . Vietnam is "deeply concerned" about persistent and aggressive naval movements by the People's Republic of China in the South China Sea, former US Navy Rear Admiral John Kirby told CNN.
  • Beijing / China : At the beginning of the annual meeting of the National People's Congress with around 3,000 delegates, Prime Minister Li Keqiang announced a planned economic growth of 6.5 percent. Inflation is said to be 3 percent. In addition, military spending is to be increased by 8.1 percent to 1.1 trillion yuan (around 128 billion euros).

  • Rome / Italy : The discovery of a more than 4,000 year old port in the desert town of Abu Tbeira seven kilometers south of Nasiriya is announced in Rome. It is the oldest known port in Iraq .
  • Strasbourg / France : The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) condemns Turkey for imprisoning two journalists, assesses this as a violation of freedom of expression and freedom of the press and orders their release. As a member of the Council of Europe , Turkey is obliged to implement judgments of the ECHR, but can appeal against the Strasbourg judgment within three months.

  • Kokopo / Papua New Guinea : A severe earthquake with a magnitude of 6.9 shook the island of New Britain in Papua New Guinea. The epicenter is located around 160 kilometers southwest of Rabaul at a depth of 35 kilometers in the south of the province of East New Britain . Nothing is known about the damage, Rabaul in the north of the island was spared.
