Map of the place

Vordermühle is a hamlet of Wipperfürth in the Oberbergisches Kreis in the administrative district of Cologne in North Rhine-Westphalia ( Germany ), it belongs to the district of Agathaberg .

Location and description

The Wingenbacher Siefen and Stüttemer Siefen streams flow into the Dierdorfer Siefen in Vordermühle . This is a tributary of the Lindlar Sülz . Vordermühle is located below a western foothill of the Steinberg (403 m above sea level). In the Vordermühle area, this spur reaches a height of 349 m above sea level and forms a watershed between the Wingenbacher Siefen and Dierdorfer Siefen.

The settlement area shows typical structures of a grown rural hamlet. The settlement area stretches along a cul-de-sac from the L 302 and Stüttemer Siefens to the west and is evidence of a late development. The road through the town used to run further east and thus completely on the other side of the Dierdorfer Siefen. The origins of the settlement can be traced along the Dierdorfer Siefen, there is also the former water mill. So it is a street village .

The country road  302 from Engelskirchen via Frielingsdorf to Wipperfürth runs directly through the village and connects it with the city center after 6.5 km.

Vordermühle is in the middle of the humid Bergisches Land, the long-term mean rainfall is 800–1000 mm and only 5 months a year have an average temperature of over 10 ° C.

Vordermühle is counted as part of the Southern Mountains. The soils are not very productive.

Neighboring towns are Hintermühle , Neeskotten , Klemenseichen , Wingenbach and Berrenberg .

Vordermühle has its own water association , which is responsible for the local water supply independently of the municipal network . The water has been extracted from a 70-meter-deep well since 2004 and then pumped into a storage container about 50 meters to the northeast on a mountain. The water is filtered through a UV system. In addition to the nine houses in Vordermühle, the first house in Hintermühle is also part of this supply. Surface water was collected until 2004, but in recent years this no longer complied with the Drinking Water Ordinance .

history

The place was mentioned for the first time in 1548: "Several inhabitants of the Mollen are recorded in the lists of the Bergisch Spann- and Schüppendienste ."

The chapel

The chapel

Since 1683 was in the Hofschaft Vordermühle that half an hour's walk from the chapel to Agathaberg one is located, Heiligenhäuschen . Residents in the immediate vicinity gathered there in May for common prayer.

Threatened to collapse as the small chapel in 1843, it was the owner Ackerer Peter Wilhelm Steger at another point bigger - namely 22 feet long and 15 feet wide - and beautiful rebuild and a small tower with a 18 pound heavy church bell Place. The builder and the residents wanted the chapel to be consecrated so that Holy Mass could be held in it. The request made to the archbishop's authority and the royal government failed because of the question of how to raise the costs for the maintenance of the sanctuary and the worship service.

By a notarial deed dated January 28, 1845, Peter Wilhelm Steger, his wife Maria Anna geb. Hardt, widow of Christian Wasserfuhr, her daughter Anna Catharina Wasserfuhr and her husband Peter Christian Dörpinghaus transferred the chapel to the Catholic parish of Wipperfürth and at the same time agreed with Joh. Peter Schnippering to keep it in good structural condition.

On May 17, 1845, Pastor Dünner consecrated her to the "Immaculate Mother of God". Through the donation of a legacy of 311 thalers from Peter Wilhelm Steger on July 28, 1857, three holy masses were secured for the chapel; they were to be held on May 17th, October 18th (the day of the donor's death) and in the octave of the feast of the Immaculate Conception by the Rector of Agathaberg or the Vicar of the St. Michael Altar in Wipperfürth. The surplus of the interest income was used for the beautification of the chapel.

In 1857 Vordermühle burned down; two semi-detached houses, two simple houses and the chapel fell victim to the flames. But Peter Wilhelm Steger had the chapel rebuilt in 1858 with the help of Johann Christian Börsch. On July 18, 1859, Pastor Dünner consecrated two small bells with the permission of the archbishop; one is said to come from the Mittelweg chapel , the other from the Protestant church in Delling .

In 1930 the chapel was repaired and a house collection in the Vordermühle school district covered almost all of the costs. The painting was done by the church painter Emonts-Alt. In the first years of Pastor Enkeler's official activity, the chapel was repaired again at a cost of 400 marks. The painting was done according to a design by the painter Zepter, Cologne .

A holy mass was held monthly in the chapel until 2004. Since 2005 there has been no regular mass due to a lack of pastors.

The chapel was repainted inside and outside in 2006. In addition, the trees around the chapel were felled so that it can be seen much better from the road.

The mill

Until the end of 2006 there was a bakery with a water wheel , because this building was originally a water mill. The building and the water wheel have been preserved to this day. ( See also: Mills in the Oberbergisches Land )
