This list of ethnologists , sorted by surname, includes recognized ethnologists (ethnologists) and other specialists who have made significant contributions to ethnology (department of anthropology , the science of man). The occupation or job title for ethnologists is not uniform, in earlier times they were sometimes called ethnographers (“people descriptors”). Internationally, the designation as social anthropologists or generalizing as anthropologists is common, in the USA they are referred to as cultural anthropologists , which in Europe, however, means folklorists (European ethnology).
