Motorcycle world championship

By the FIM advertised motorcycle world championship was between June 5 and September 10 held.

500 cc class

24-year-old Gilera factory driver Umberto Masetti from Italy is world champion in the 500 cc class . The two Britons Geoff Duke ( Norton ) and Leslie Graham ( AJS ) follow in second and third place . In the constructors' championship, Norton wins against Gilera and AJS.

350 cm³ class

In the 350 cm³ class, 39-year-old Brit Bob Foster won the title on a Velocette . Second was his compatriot Geoff Duke in a Norton , and third was AJS pilot Leslie Graham (also Great Britain). In the constructors' championship, Velocette wins ahead of AJS and Norton.

250 cc class

The 32-year-old Italian Dario Ambrosini ( Benelli ) won the title in the 250 cc class, ahead of the British Maurice Cann and Bruno Ruffo (Italy) - both on Moto Guzzi . In the constructors' championship, Benelli prevailed ahead of Moto Guzzi and Velocette .

125 cc class

29-year-old FB Mondial factory driver Bruno Ruffo is world champion in the 125 cm³ class . Second place is shared by his compatriots and teammates Gianni Leoni and Carlo Ubbiali . In the constructors' championship, FB Mondial prevailed against Morini and MV Agusta .

Team class (600 cm³)

The British-Italian duo Eric Oliver / Lorenzo Dobelli on Norton becomes world champion in the sidecar . The Italians Ercole Frigerio / Ezio Ricotti on Gilera follow in second place, the Swiss Hans Haldemann / Josef Albisser on Norton third . Oliver was the first rider in the history of the motorcycle world championship to defend his title. Norton wins the constructors' championship ahead of Gilera and FN .
