Arocs is the name for a truck series of the Mercedes-Benz brand of Daimler AG . The Arocs series includes all trucks and semitrailer tractors for on- and off-road operation in the construction sector.
It was presented to the press in January 2013 as the successor to the construction site vehicles of the Mercedes-Benz Axor and Mercedes-Benz Actros series; the public premiere was at bauma 2013 in Munich.
Like the Actros for long-distance transport and the Antos for distribution transport before , according to the manufacturer, the Arocs series was also developed from the outset for its intended area of application, instead of deriving variants for different purposes from one series. The front design is based on the Antos, but with a radiator grille design that is also used in the Mercedes-Benz SUVs.
Mercedes has redeveloped all engines for the Euro VI standard since 2015 . The new in- line engines cover a power range from 240 kW (326 PS) to 460 kW (625 PS).
Arocs SLT
The new heavy-duty transporters (SLT) Actros and Arocs were presented on January 28, 2014 . The very powerful tractor units are available as series and special utility vehicles. Both trucks have an in-line six-cylinder OM 473 engine with a 15.6 liter displacement, which has an output of up to 460 kW (625 hp) and a maximum torque of 3,000 Newton meters (Nm) at 1,100 rpm (revolutions per minute). From 800 rpm this engine delivers 2,500 Nm. The further torque curve resembles a plateau. In addition to the top engine with 460 kW, there are two smaller versions with 380 and 425 kW (517 and 578 hp). All engines meet the Euro VI emissions standard, which is implemented with the help of an SCR system ( selective catalytic reduction ) plus a particle filter .
With the help of a hydrodynamic start-up clutch, which can also be used as a retarder , load weights of a maximum of 250 tonnes can be pulled several times in succession even on ten percent gradients when starting up. This turbo retarder clutch should hold out without any problems even during longer reversing operation . The retarder is also used for braking assistance. The engine braking power (maximum 475 kW) and the retarder together produce a system braking power of 720 kW. Added to this is the performance of the normal braking system. During normal driving, a dry clutch provides the necessary frictional connection, which is located in the retarder housing and is sealed off from the hydraulic system.
The so-called cooling tower is located directly behind the driver's cab ( GigaSpace and BigSpace with a width of 2500 mm). This includes the cooling system for the engine and turbo retarder clutch, the hydraulic system (with around 150 liters), the compressed air tank and the 900 liter diesel fuel tank. The AdBlue tank with a volume of 60 liters (Arocs) or 75 liters (Actros), the stacked batteries and the exhaust system are located directly behind the cooling tower, but below, on the side of the frame .
The SLT is available in a variety of designs from the Arocs SLT 6x4 and 8x4 to the Arocs SLT 8x8. The Actros is available with air suspension as standard , the Arocs with steel suspension .
