The 1998 Academy Awards were held on March 23, 1998 at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles . It was the 70th Annual Academy Awards . In the year of the award, films from the previous year are always recognized, in this case the films from 1997.

The overwhelming winner that evening was the film Titanic , which won eleven awards from 14 nominations. Together with Ben Hur and The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, he holds the record of trophies to this day.
