The 50th Nordic World Ski Championships were held from February 18 to March 1, 2015, Swedish Falun instead. Falun hosted the World Championships for the fourth time after 1954 , 1974 and 1993 . An outsourced race from the 1980 World Championships also took place there .

The program included disciplines from ski jumping , cross-country skiing and Nordic combined . All ski jumping competitions as well as the Nordic combined jumps were held on the two Lugnet hills in Falun . The cross-country skiing competitions and the Nordic combined runs also took place in the Lugnet leisure area . There have been no changes in the range of competitions since the last World Championships .

Choice of venue

With Oberstdorf , Falun , Lahti and Zakopane, only locations that had already hosted Nordic World Ski Championships applied to host the World Championships. At the 47th FIS Congress from May 31 to June 5, 2010 in Antalya , Falun prevailed against the competitors in the third ballot. The results of the ballots were as follows:

venue 1st ballot 2nd ballot 3rd ballot
SwedenSweden Falun 6th 7th 8th
FinlandFinland Lahti 5 5 7th
PolandPoland Zakopane 3 3 -
GermanyGermany Oberstdorf 1 - -

Successful nations and athletes

Norway was the most successful nation with winning eleven gold medals and with this result set a new record at Nordic World Ski Championships, the previous record was eight gold medals and was also set by Norway at the World Championships in 2011 and 2013 . The German team also presented itself very successfully with five World Cup titles .
Cross-country skier Petter Northug from Norway was the most successful athlete at the World Championships with four gold medals. There were three athletes with two gold medals each, one silver and one bronze medal, these were the two Germans Johannes Rydzek - Nordic combined - and Severin Freund - ski jumping - and Northug's compatriot Rune Velta - ski jumping. The most successful athlete was the Norwegian Therese Johaug , who won three gold medals in cross-country skiing. Her compatriot Marit Bjørgen was also successful again with two World Cup titles, although perhaps not as outstanding as at previous World Championships or Olympic Games. As in the previous year, the German ski jumper Carina Vogt was again in top shape at the Olympic Winter Games and also won two gold medals.
