Let's Dance is a live - dance show of the TV channel RTL . The first season took place in 2006, and the thirteenth season will be broadcast in 2020 . The show is the German version of the BBC telecast Strictly Come Dancing and since Season 3 in Studio 32 of the MMC Studios ( Coloneum ) in Cologne produced. Among the numerous other adaptations are the US format Dancing with the Stars and the Austrian version Dancing Stars .
concept
Several celebrities compete against each other in the standard and Latin dances , each with a dance partner, professional or successful tournament dancers (in the third season, fashion dances were also recorded). At the end of each performance, the jury gives a score between one and ten. Which couple will participate in the next Let's Dance show and which will not be determined by the audience, who can vote for their favorite by telephone at the end of the show. In the final ranking, only the relative placement is decisive. The last placed in the jury evaluation receives one point, the penultimate two points and so on. The same applies to the placement of the audience rating. The organizer does not publish the results of the audience rating (number of callers or ranking list). The highest placed player receives as many points as there are still pairs in the race in the respective episode. Jury and audience ratings are added together, the couple with the fewest points is eliminated. If there are several last-placed pairs with the same low rating, the pair with the lowest audience rating will be eliminated.
broadcast
The first two seasons of the show were moderated by Hape Kerkeling and Nazan Eckes . The third season moderated Daniel Hartwich and Nazan Eckes. Seasons 4 to 10 were moderated by Daniel Hartwich and Sylvie Meis . Before season 11, Sylvie Meis was replaced by Victoria Swarovski .
The renowned orchestra Pepe Lienhard Band played the live music for the dances in the first two seasons. In the third season this task was taken over by u. a. from DSDS known Lillo Scrimali with his orchestra. Since season 4 (2011) there has been no live orchestra at all.
The speaker who announces the dance couples and asks for the jury evaluation is Patrick Linke from the start . The choreographer for the dances at the opening of the show is Kim Willecke, the costumes for the dance couples are created under the direction of the former professional dancer Katia Convents; up to and including the ninth season, over 1850 sets of clothing were designed and completed.
While moderator Kerkeling joked in the first few years that the 10-point sign from juror Joachim Llambi was still completely unused, the maximum number of 30 points was awarded more and more frequently from the ninth season onwards. In the tenth season, the couples were awarded 18 times by the jury with the maximum number of 30 points, 9 times of which the dancing couple Vanessa Mai and Christian Polanc. This was exceeded in 2019 by the dance couple Ella Endlich and Valentin Lusin, who were even rated 10 times with 30 points.
The audience record was held by the final of the seventh season in 2014 with the winning couple Alexander Klaws and Isabel Edvardsson . This year RTL achieved a top rating with 5.58 million viewers.

Full marks reviews
Up to season 5 the jury awarded a maximum of 40 points, from season 6 30 points. While in seasons 1–6 the full number of points was almost unattainable and was only awarded three times (to Sophia Thomalla , Magdalena Brzeska and Sıla Şahin ) (mainly because juror Llambi emphasized his strictness in not giving 10 points in the early years), the maximum rating was achieved three to four times in seasons 7–8. Since season 9, four celebrities (all semi-finalists) have achieved the highest mark several times. Most of the top results were in seasons 13 (24), 12 (19), 10 (18) and 9 (16), especially by Ella Endlich (10 in season 12) and Vanessa Mai (9 in season 10).
In addition, Sophia Thomalla and Massimo Sinató achieved the full 30 points in the 2013 Christmas Special .

season 2
The 2nd season was broadcast by RTL from May 14, 2007, this time ten couples competed. In the final on June 30, 2007, three couples danced this time for the title “Dancing Star 2007”. A couple also had to go on the first show.

season 3
The third season began on April 9, 2010 and was shown every Friday at 9:15 p.m. The show was moderated by Nazan Eckes and Daniel Hartwich , who replaced Hape Kerkeling. After only one episode, Arthur Abraham voluntarily left the show on the advice of the boxing association doctor Walter Wagner, in order to recover from his last boxing match on March 27, 2010 against Andre Dirrell and then to be able to fully devote himself to his boxing career. As a replacement for the Abraham / Uszkureit couple, Rolf Scheider, who had already been eliminated, took part in the competition again with his partner Motsi Mabuse.
A week later Hillu Schwetje also left. After suffering a fracture in her left hand during training, she fell so badly on her right knee shortly before the second broadcast on April 16 that she had to be taken to the hospital and was unable to dance that evening. A few days later it was found that Schwetje had to drop out of the show entirely. Like his colleague Rolf Scheider, Mathieu Carrière , who had previously retired, was given the opportunity to return to the field. When he turned down this offer, the field of participants was permanently reduced by one candidate from the third broadcast.
During the dress rehearsal for the sixth broadcast on May 14th, professional dancer Christian Bärens was seriously injured. Although he was able to play the show despite his back injury, he had to stop training afterwards. Bärens' dance partner Sylvie van der Vaart danced from the seventh show with Christian Polanc , who originally appeared at Hillu Schwetje's side.
For the first time, the jury determined a dance task (jury dance) for the final, favoring a weaker performance from the shows that had already been broadcast, which should be presented again by the finalists.
The ratings of the season were above the broadcaster average.

Season 4
The broadcast of the fourth season began on March 23, 2011 with the moderators Daniel Hartwich and Sylvie van der Vaart , who had taken second place as a candidate the year before. The broadcast date was moved from Friday to Wednesday evening. In the first two weeks, the decision was broadcast about an hour after the show during a break in stern TV magazine , but from April 6th it was shown immediately after the dance performance.
Bernd Herzsprung paused in the third program after the death of his mother, while Kristina Bach left the competition entirely on the advice of her doctor after she had a herniated disc during rehearsals for the fifth show . Liliana Matthäus, who was eliminated in the fourth show, moved up for Bach.
In the sixth show, a so-called Discofox marathon was carried out in addition to the individual dances, in which all five remaining couples competed simultaneously during a four-minute medley. The worst couple was brought off the dance floor at regular intervals, which meant that the candidates and their dance partners could achieve between 2 and 10 points.

Nk ), El Tango De Roxanne ( José Feliciano , Ewan McGregor & Jacek Koman ) and Your Song (McGregor & Alessandro Safina ) ( 39 points).
Season 5
The fifth season, which began broadcasting on March 14, 2012, brought with it some innovations: On the one hand, twelve couples danced in eleven live broadcasts for the first time, and on the other hand, Maite Kelly , a previous year's winner, took a seat at the jury table for the first time. A special participant in the dance round was the German singer Joana Zimmer , who is blind from birth and yet took part in the competition under the same conditions as her competitors.
Another novelty was the introduction of a show motto in the fourth broadcast of the season, which was all about the cult dance film Dirty Dancing . Two weeks later, the candidates presented in another “motto show” a freestyle dance to self-selected music titles that play a special role in their lives. Your associated “Magic Moments” were told or explained beforehand in the clip.
Similar to the previous season, a dance duel took place, with the remaining six couples this time not competing against each other in the so-called "dance showdown", but on the groups "Tango" (Magdalena Brzeska and Erich Klann, Stefanie Hertel and Sergiy Plyuta, Joana Zimmer and Christian Polanc) and “Jive” (Patrick Lindner and Isabel Edvardsson, Rebecca Mir and Massimo Sinató, Lars Riedel and Marta Arndt). Each group was rated as a closed team, so that ultimately all couples within the respective group were given the same number of points.
Gitte Hænning paused in the fourth show because of the cancer death of her sister Jette and then left voluntarily. Magdalena Brzeska , who had previously been voted out, was allowed to take her place in the competition again from April 11th alongside professional dancer Erich Klann .

Magdalena Brzeska and Erich Klann won the final with a cha-cha-cha to Kelly Clarkson's Stronger (What Doesn't Kill You) (32 points), the Tango Por una cabeza by Carlos Gardel (38 points) and the freestyle to a medley from Pirates of the Caribbean with excerpts from the pieces He's a Pirate , Angelica and Moonlight Serenade (39 points).
Season 6
In December 2012 it was announced that Jorge González will be a member of the jury, replacing Maite Kelly . As the broadcaster announced on February 18, 2013, the jury will only consist of three people. In addition, the show will run again on Fridays from April 5, 2013, as was the case in its third season. In addition, the number of dance couples was again limited to ten.
After the Discofox marathon, which had already become a tradition, the dance showdown introduced in the previous season also established itself and was now carried out under the title “Dance Battle”. The dancer groups competing against each other were formed this time by selecting two team captains from the row of celebrities, who in turn could be determined by the viewers via the RTL Inside app . Their choice fell on Sıla Şahin (in the team with Paul Janke and Simone Ballack) and Balian Buschbaum, who, however, retired on the same evening and passed the "baton" on to Manuela Wisbeck (in the team with Jürgen Milski and Manuel Cortez). Since the groups no longer competed against each other with different dances, but instead measured each other over a medley of rumba and jive, another innovation concerned the dance performance itself.
In addition, the programs with a certain motto were continued: In the 50th edition on May 10th, the candidates danced in two rounds to well-known film titles , a week later special life events (“Magic Moments”) were performed again. What was new, however, was the dance-off held in the semifinals - a battle for the direct performance comparison of all remaining couples who competed against each other in a cha-cha-cha using choreography presented at the same time.

Season 7
The seventh season began on March 28, 2014, whereby - unlike in the previous rounds - each program began at 8:15 p.m.
The second show introduced the contemporary expression and movement dance, which consists of a mixture of different styles and is intended to particularly accentuate the emotionality to be conveyed - for example based on concise catchphrases or thoughts from the accompanying music title. In addition, the dance styles Bollywood, Charleston and hip-hop celebrated their premiere on the Let's Dance floor in the fourth edition.
In a dance battle in which the respective formations had to compete with each other, the dancers of the individual teams were determined by the selected participants and the professional dancers. Carmen Geiss's team included Alexander Klaws and Larissa Marolt, and Lilly Becker's team included Alexander Leipold and Tanja Szewczenko.
With the finale of the seventh season, RTL achieved a top rating with 5.58 million viewers.

Season 13
Shortly after the finale of the 12th season it was announced that there would be another season in 2020 and that the jury in the 13th season would remain unchanged. [obsolete] On February 21, 2020, the 13th season began with the introductory show.
One day before the fourth broadcast, Mediengruppe RTL decided to only broadcast the upcoming live shows to a very small number of audiences due to the COVID-19 pandemic in Germany . So only the relatives and friends of the candidates sat in the audience. A week later it was decided to completely forego studio audiences in the live shows.
To accompany the season, a podcast was published on the audio platform “Audio Now” with the moderators Bella Lesnik and Martin Tietjen , in which the events were discussed after the live show. The final on May 22, 2020 saw 4,800,000 spectators.

Under the motto "Let's Dance - The Great Professional Challenge" on June 27, 2019, only the professionals competed for the first time. The jury made up of Jorge González , Motsi Mabuse and Joachim Llambi judged without points. A vote in the audience decided the winner.

2020
On May 29, 2020, a professional challenge was broadcast live, unlike the previous year, due to the pandemic without a studio audience, which had decided on the winner in the previous year. Swarovski and Hartwich again moderated; the jury consisting of Motsi Mabuse, Jorge González and Joachim Llambi again rated without points. The television viewers chose the winning couple.

Llambis dance duel
In 2019 and 2020 RTL broadcast this spin-off . In each episode, Let's Dance juror Joachim Llambi sent two professional dancers (or celebrities) abroad, where they had to learn difficult, local dances. The assessment of the performance by the local trainers and Llambi decided the winner.
