The Mercedes-Benz series 209 was the successor series to the Mercedes-Benz series 208 , which was discontinued in June 2002, and belongs to the CLK class . The CLK was manufactured as a coupé (C 209) at the Daimler plant in Bremen and as a convertible (A 209) at Karmann in Osnabrück.

Technically, this CLK is based on the platform of the C-Class ( 203 series ).

Although W 209 is not an official name for Mercedes-Benz, it is used as a collective term for the C 209 and A 209 variants of this series.

Around 360,000 models have been delivered since its market launch in summer 2002.

The CLK Coupé was replaced in May 2009 by the Coupé C 207 based on the subsequent C-Class . The successor to the Cabriolet was introduced at the end of March 2010.

body

The body is similar from the front slightly that of the Mercedes-Benz R230 (SL-Class) and offers four seats and a luggage compartment of 435 (Coupe) or 390 l (convertible). The convertible (type A 209) has a fabric top (in black, blue or gray) that can be opened and closed electro-hydraulically within 25 seconds.

The CLK is a little more expensive than the C-Class. Both the coupé and the convertible are only available in the two equipment lines Avantgarde and Elegance . These differ only slightly from each other, for example in the interior decor or specific wheels.

Facelift

2004

In July 2004, Mercedes-Benz revised the CLK for the first time:

  • New center console (new switches, radio designs with a larger screen, new gear or selector lever, etc.)
  • improved gearshift and more direct steering
  • New link bearings on the front and rear axles, which enable more agile cornering behavior without sacrificing comfort, and a reinforced stabilizer on the rear axle.

2005

  • Special model of the AMG Performance Studio, the CLK 63 AMG Black Series with 19 kW more power

Engine variants

Unlike the previous generation, the 208 series, the 209 series, which was offered between summer 2002 and spring 2010, was now also equipped with diesel engines. The "CLK 200 CGI" with 125 kW (170 hp) and direct injection , which was offered from 2003 to 2005, should also be mentioned, but in reality it did not keep its promise of saving fuel and disappeared from the range after two years.
