Eurovision: Europe Shine a Light is a live television show organized by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and produced by Dutch broadcasters AVROTROS , NOS and NPO . It replaced the Eurovision Song Contest 2020 , which was supposed to take place in Rotterdam , the Netherlands , but was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic .

The show was broadcast live from Hilversum , Netherlands, on May 16, 2020 and lasted approximately two hours.

venue

On April 1, 2020, Hilversum was confirmed as the venue for the event and Studio 21 in the Media Park as the venue. It was the second time Hilversum held a Eurovision event after the 1958 Eurovision Song Contest was held there.

format

concept

During the roughly two-hour program, all 41 songs selected to participate in the Eurovision Song Contest 2020 were presented in a non-competitive format. Participants from previous years were also invited to play well-known Eurovision songs.

According to the EBU's publication on April 16, 2020, there should be some surprises during the broadcast. Likewise, all 41 artists who would have started in 2020 for their respective countries were supposed to virtually sing together the song Love Shine A Light by Katrina and the Waves , who won the 1997 Song Contest for the United Kingdom . The fans of the Eurovision Song Contest also got a role in the show. They sang together virtually as a choir the title What's Another Year by Johnny Logan , who won the 1980 Eurovision Song Contest for Ireland with the title .

Moderation

The show was hosted by Chantal Janzen , Edsilia Rombley and Jan Smit , who were originally selected to present the Eurovision Song Contest 2020. The Webvideoproduzentin Nikkie de Jager (aka NikkieTutorials ) should produce for the mission web video.
