Les Forges is a commune in the Vosges department in the Grand Est region of France (until 2015 Lorraine ). It belongs to the Arrondissement Épinal and the municipal association Agglomération d'Épinal .

geography

The municipality of Les Forges with 1868 inhabitants (January 1, 2017) is located just four kilometers west of Épinals , the capital ( prefecture ) of the Vosges department. The settlement area of ​​the municipality has grown together with the neighboring municipality of Chantraine and Épinal. There is also a cross-community settlement and industrial area to the north-west bordering Uxegney .

The 7.14 km² municipal area of ​​Les Forges covers part of the plateau between the Moselle and Avière , which rises to the south and reaches 461 meters above sea level in the southeast of the municipality. In the northeast of the municipality runs the Canal des Vosges in summit level to about 350 meters above sea level. About half of the municipal area is part of the Forêt de Ban d'Uxegney forest area . The agricultural areas are limited to almost 100 ha.

Neighboring communities of Les Forges are Uxegney in the north, Golbey in the northeast, Chantraine in the east, Renauvoid in the south and Sanchey in the west.

history

The nucleus of the community were three blacksmiths. The hamlet of Les Forges (German: the forges ) has been attested since the 11th century. The present municipality was created in 1892 when it was separated from the territory of the municipality of Chantraine .

Attractions

In the municipality, a few hundred meters east of the Bouzey reservoir, there is the Étang de la Comtesse wetland , an old pond with a bog. It is made accessible by a nature trail.

Economy and Infrastructure

There are small trade and service companies in the community. Since the late 1960s, Les Forges has mainly become the home of many employees of industrial companies on the Moselle (Épinal, Golbey, Thaon-les-Vosges). There are seven farms in the community (including fruit and wine growing). A new industrial area ( Zone d'activités économiques; ZAE ) was inaugurated north-west of the canal in October 2009 . A metalworking company and a hardware store have now settled here.

Les Forges is the location of a primary school.

Due to the dovetailing with the nearby Épinal , Les Forges is connected to all surrounding areas by trunk roads. In Les Forges, the departmental roads D 36 (Épinal-Uxegney) and D 460 (Golbey- Darney ) cross as the main traffic axes .
