The Mercedes 15/70/100 PS , known from 1926 as the Mercedes-Benz 15/70/100 PS Type 400 or Mercedes-Benz Type 400 , is a luxury vehicle from the Daimler-Motoren-Gesellschaft (DMG). After Paul Daimler's departure , it was designed by his successor as chief designer, Ferdinand Porsche . At the same time as this model, the slightly larger six-cylinder Mercedes 24/100/140 PS was created , which only differs in engine and wheelbase. Around 1900 vehicles of this type were produced in the production period from 1924 to 1929.
Mercedes 15/70/100 hp (1924-1926)
The car was available from the factory as a chassis, six-seat touring car, six-seat Pullman sedan, six-seat coupe-sedan, six-seat Pullman convertible, Landaulet and Cabriolet D (with four doors).
Its six-cylinder in-line engine with overhead camshaft ( OHC ) and vertical shaft has a capacity of 3920 cm³ , develops 51 kW (70 hp) in suction mode and 74 kW (100 hp) with the connectable Roots blower (compressor).
The rear wheels, which are attached to a rigid axle and suspended from semi-elliptical leaf springs , are driven via a four-speed gearbox . The front axle is also rigid and hangs on semi-elliptical leaf springs. The car has cable brakes for all four wheels.
The cars reach 105 to 112 km / h, depending on the rear axle ratio.
Mercedes-Benz Type 400 (1926–1929)
After Daimler-Motoren-Gesellschaft with Benz & Cie. merged to form Daimler-Benz AG , the unchanged manufactured Mercedes 15/70/100 PS was renamed Mercedes-Benz Type 400 .
The rear axle suspension was changed from cantilever leaf springs to underslung springs in 1927 . From 1928, the cable brakes received suction air assistance to boost the brake force.
In 1929 the model was replaced by the Nürburg 460 .
