These are described in the list of municipalities in the Main-Tauber district . The list of deserted areas in the Main-Tauber district shows the abandoned settlements .

Tauberbischofsheim is the district town , there are also two large district towns with Bad Mergentheim and Wertheim . There are four agreed administrative communities between individual municipalities with headquarters in Bad Mergentheim , Boxberg , Grünsfeld and Tauberbischofsheim .

In terms of population, Bad Mergentheim is the largest municipality and Wittighausen the smallest. In terms of the municipal area, Wertheim is the largest municipality and Assamstadt the smallest. The municipality with the highest population density is Tauberbischofsheim with 191 inhabitants per km², the lowest is Creglingen with 40 inhabitants per km².

The basis for this list are the places mentioned in the literature source by Kohlhammer (1980) Das Land Baden-Württemberg - Official description by districts and municipalities - Volume IV: Administrative region Stuttgart, regional associations Franconia and East Württemberg . Additional locations that are not mentioned in the basic literature source are usually recorded according to the source www.leo-bw.de with additional individual references.

  69. a b c The official description (including at www.leo-bw.de) assigns the Höllhof farmstead from Niederstetten exclusively to Oberstetten. However, according to the district cut-out on the regional map , the place is divided roughly in half by the district boundary between the two districts of Oberstetten and Wildentierbach. It is unclear whether there is an error in the official description or, conversely, an incorrect representation of the boundary of the official LUBW map.
