Robert Carlton "Bob" Wilson (born April 5, 1916 in Calexico , California , †  August 12, 1999 in Chula Vista , California) was an American politician . Between 1953 and 1981 he represented the state of California in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Bob Wilson attended public schools in his Californian homeland, followed by San Diego State College and the Otis Art Institute . During the Second World War he served in the US Army . He served as a commissary in the United States for food supplies . He then served as a Lieutenant Colonel in the Reserve of the Marine Corps . In San Diego he was also a partner in two advertising agencies. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Republican Party . In 1952 he supported General Dwight D. Eisenhower's presidential campaign . From 1962 to 1966 he was chairman of the Republican Congressional Campaign Committee.

In the 1952 congressional elections , Wilson was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the then newly established 30th  constituency of California , where he took up his new mandate on January 3, 1953. After 13 re-elections, he was able to complete a total of 14 legislative terms in Congress by January 3, 1981 . From 1963 to 1973 he represented the 36th, from 1973 to 1975 the 40th and then the 41st district of his state. During his time as a congressman, the Cold War , the Vietnam War , the civil rights movement and the Watergate affair fell, among others . Wilson sat on the Armed Forces Committee since 1959. He was a Conservative MP and a supporter of the military and the defense industry.

In 1980 he renounced another candidacy. After his tenure in the US House of Representatives, Bob Wilson was chairman of the Washington Industrial Team and Air-Space America organization . He died in Chula Vista on August 12, 1999 and was buried in San Diego.
