The J.League Division 2 2012 was the thirteenth season of the Japanese J.League Division 2 . 22 clubs took part in it. The season began on March 4th and ended on November 11th, 2011, the then for the first time carried out promotion playoffs between the teams in places 3 to 6 to determine the third promoter took place on November 18th and 23rd.
Champion and thus promoted to the J.League Division 1 2012 was Ventforet Kofu . In addition to Kofu, runner-up Shonan Bellmare also rose. In the promotion playoffs, sixth-placed Ōita Trinita prevailed.
For the first time since Division 2 was founded, relegation to a lower division was also possible. Ultimately, this unfortunate honor went to the bottom of the table, FC Machida Zelvia , who was transferred to the 2013 Japan Football League after just one year in the Japanese second division .
mode
The clubs played a double round tournament ; thus there were a total of 42 games per team. There were three points for a win and one point for a draw. The table was created according to the following criteria:
- Number of points scored
- Goal difference
- Goals scored
- Results of the games among themselves
- Decision game or coin toss
The two clubs with the most points went straight to J.League Division 1 2013 at the end of the season .
The third climber was determined by a tournament in the knockout system over two rounds between the teams in places 3 to 6. Here the third played against the sixth, the fourth competed against the fifth. The higher ranked team enjoyed home rights. In the event of a tie after 90 minutes, the better-ranked club advanced one round. The final took place in the Olympic Stadium in Tokyo , the winner was promoted to Division 1.
For the first time since Division 2 was founded, up to two teams were relegated to the Japan Football League in 2013 . The exact circumstances depended on the number of teams eligible for promotion in the first two places in the JFL. In two such teams, the bottom of the table in Division 2 rose directly, the penultimate had to play in two relegation games against the JFL runner-up. If there was only one team eligible for promotion among the two best JFL clubs, the Division 2 bottom of the table rose directly if the JFL representative had become champions, otherwise two relegation games were held here as well.
Attendees
A total of 22 teams took part in the season, two more than in the previous season. At the end of the preseason, three clubs were promoted to Division 1 in 2012 . Master FC Tokyo was able to repair the relegation from the House of Lords immediately at the end of the 2010 season, the third-placed Consadole Sapporo returned to Division 1 for the third time after three years in Division 2. Sagan Tosu was placed between Tokyo and Consadole , the last team of the Division 2 founding members to make their first promotion to Division 1 after thirteen years in this division.
The three promoted teams were replaced by three clubs from Division 1. Sixteenth in the table Ventforet Kofu and seventeenth Avispa Fukuoka both returned to Division 2 after just one year in the House of Lords, while bottom group Montedio Yamagata ended a three-year membership in Division 1.
The field of participants was completed by FC Machida Zelvia , third place in the Japan Football League 2011 , and Matsumoto Yamaga FC , fourth of the same season. With these two clubs, the desired maximum number of 22 clubs for the league was reached.
