Mairie Osse

Osse is a French municipality with 323 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in Doubs in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté .

geography

Osse is located at 409  m , about 15 kilometers east of the city of Besançon (as the crow flies). The village extends in the western Jura , on the so-called first plateau, a wide basin at the southern foot of the Jura ridge (Côte), at the source of a side stream of the Gour.

The area of the 8.21 km² municipality covers a section of the western French Jura. The main part of the area is taken up by the wide first Jura plateau, which averages 410 m. It forms a wide basin with no above-ground drainage. A small stream rises near Osse and flows northeast to the Gour , which, however , drains away again after a short walk at the foot of the Côte. In the area of Osse, the plateau is predominantly made up of arable and meadow land. To the north, the municipal area extends over the plateau to the elongated, wooded ridge of the Côte du Mont (Jura ridge), which separates the plateau from the adjacent Doube valley. The highest elevation of the Osse is reached here at 550 m.

With 323 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) Osse is one of the small communities in the Doubs department. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (248 people were still counted in 1886), the population has continued to grow steadily since the early 1970s.

Economy and Infrastructure

Until well into the 20th century, Osse was mainly a village characterized by agriculture (arable farming, fruit growing and cattle breeding) and forestry. In addition, there are now some local small businesses. In the meantime, the village has also turned into a residential community. Many workers are commuters who work in the Besançon agglomeration.

The village is off the major thoroughfares on a departmental road that leads from Nancray to Baume-les-Dames . Further road connections exist with Bouclans and Vauchamps.
