Mairie Courcelles

Courcelles is a French municipality with 106 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in Doubs in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté .

geography

Courcelles is located at 360  m , about 17 kilometers south-southwest of the city of Besançon (as the crow flies). The village extends in the Jura , on a plateau around 80 m above the valley of the Loue , which extends here in an arc far to the north, east of the height of the Landet.

The area of the 3.61 km² municipal area covers a section of the French Jura. The area is bounded in the east by the Loue, which moves with a winding course in a valley that is cut about 80 m deep into the surrounding plateaus. The steep slopes are criss-crossed by striking limestone walls in some places. The flat valley floor is around 600 m wide. To the west, the community area extends to the adjacent plateau of Courcelles, which is an average of 370 m and consists partly of meadow and partly of forest. In the far south the area extends to the church hill ( Église du Mont ), on which the highest elevation of Courcelles is reached at 416 m.

The neighboring communities of Courcelles are Charnay and Chenecey-Buillon in the north, Rurey in the east, Rouhe in the south and Palantine in the west.

history

The place name goes back to the Latin word corticella ( small courtyard ). In the Middle Ages, Courcelles was part of the Châtillon-sur-Lison domain . Together with Franche-Comté , the village came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678.

Attractions

On a hill that overlooks the Courcelles plateau by around 40 m, stands the Église du Mont church , which serves as a parish church for the parishes of Courcelles, Rouhe, Palantine and Goux-sous-Landet. It was built in the 13th century and has a Gothic choir. The old town center is characterized by various farmhouses in the characteristic style of Franche-Comté from the 17th to 19th centuries.

Economy and Infrastructure

Courcelles was a predominantly agricultural and forestry village until well into the 20th century. Even today, the residents live mainly from their work in the first sector. Outside of the primary sector there are almost no jobs in the village. Some workers are also commuters who work in the surrounding larger towns.

The village is off the major thoroughfares on a departmental road that leads from Quingey to Épeugney . There are other road links with Charnay, Châtillon-sur-Lison and Palantine.
