Luís Vicente Gutiérrez (born December 10, 1953 in Chicago , Illinois ) is an American politician of the Democratic Party . He has represented Illinois' fourth congressional district in the United States House of Representatives since 1993 .

Life

Gutiérrez attended Northeastern Illinois University and then worked as a teacher and social worker. He was also a member of the Chicago Board of Aldermen before moving into the House of Representatives. Since he is of Puerto Rican descent, he supports various organizations that advocate the promotion of Puerto Rico. Gutiérrez has secured the support of a wide range of Chicago citizens.

Although only interested in running, Gutiérrez announced in November 2006 that he did not want to run for Mayor of Chicago in 2007 .

Gutiétrrez was regularly re-elected until 2016. His client ended on January 3, 2019, as he did not run in the 2018 election.
