List of cities with a historical center
This list of cities with a historical city center provides a global overview of places and cities that have a historical city center (also known as the old town in general ) with monument preservation significance. The additional terms for the individual cities are intended to identify the respective historical city type of a city with a historical city center.
Germany
Despite severe war damage and the period of partition between 1945 and 1990, numerous old towns in Germany were preserved or rebuilt. Complete ensembles often still exist, especially in small and medium-sized cities with a population of up to around 100,000.
Due to the centuries-long division into different domains, there are particularly diverse historical city centers in Germany with different characteristics.
