The Dacia Duster is a Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) produced by the Romanian car manufacturer Dacia , which was launched on April 17, 2010. The vehicle is built on the B0 platform constructed in 2004, but has a wheelbase longer by four centimeters at 2.67 meters.
Outside the EU, the car model is manufactured and marketed under the Renault brand name as Renault Duster . It is offered as a Renault model in Ukraine, Russia, Georgia, the Middle East and Africa, as well as in South America. A pick-up version called Renault Duster Oroch is also available in South America . In India the model is sold as Nissan Terrano II , which is also offered in Russia.
At the IAA 2013 the Duster was presented in a revised form. Optical characteristics are the redesigned radiator grille, the modified headlights with daytime running lights, the chrome-decorated rear lights and the roof rails with perforated supports.
The second generation made its debut at the IAA in September 2017 and has been on the market since January 2018.
Renault manager Gérard Detourbet was responsible for the Duster project .

Stars in the Euro NCAP - Crash Test |
The Duster is based on the leading C platform developed by Nissan, such as the Renault Clio II – IV, Nissan Micra and Nissan Juke . Dacia uses version B0, which is derived from the B platform. Dacia achieves cost advantages through a high proportion of identical parts within its own brand (e.g. cockpit) as well as those from the Renault-Nissan group. Many components from older model series from Clio and Megane are used in the Duster, as are engines from the Renault Scenic , and the four-wheel drive of the 4 × 4 comes from Nissan.
The Dacia Duster has been available in Europe , Turkey , Algeria and Morocco since March 2010 . Since June 2010 it has also been offered as Renault in the Ukraine , Israel , Jordan , Syria , Egypt and Lebanon as well as in some African countries. These vehicles are produced in Pitesti in Romania . The Duster has also been available in the UK since 2012 . In India and Russia , the Duster is sold by Renault and at the same time also offered by Nissan with modified front and rear sections as the ' Terrano ' model. In Brazil, the Duster with modified grille at the Renault plant is in Sao Jose dos Pinhais produced as well as Sofasa in Colombia and in Brazil , Argentina , Mexico and Chile sold where since September 2015, it is also in a pick-up version with double cabin as Renault Duster Oroch is available.
construction
The Duster has a ground clearance of 19.75 cm, in the all-wheel drive version 21 cm, an approach angle of 30 degrees at the front and 36.5 degrees at the rear, a ramp angle of 23 degrees and overhangs of 82.25 cm at the front and 82 cm at the rear.
safety
The vehicle is equipped with an anti-lock braking system from Bosch (Version 8.1), electronic brake force distribution (EBD “electronic brakeforce distribution”) and a brake assistance system (BAS). Other assistance systems are also installed, including traction control (ASR) for all-wheel drive. The all-wheel drive comes from the Nissan Qashqai , but without electronic differential locks and hill descent assistance .
For passive safety , the Duster has two front airbags, three-point seat belts with load limiters and, since the facelift in 2013, the electronic stability control (ESP, vehicle dynamics control ) and side airbags across all versions; Head airbags and rear side airbags are not available. The pyrotechnic belt tensioners complement the restraint system.
Child seats can only be securely attached to the back seat on the outside seats. Isofix brackets are also available there. According to the operating instructions, no forward-facing child seats may be attached to the front passenger seat and rearward-facing child seats (baby seats) may only be attached if the front passenger airbag is deactivated using a switch on the dashboard.
In the EURO-NCAP crash test, the Duster achieved 3 out of 5 possible stars.
Technical specifications
The various four-cylinder engines come from Renault. All engine variants meet the Euro 4 emissions standard. The Euro 6 pollution standard has been met since 2015 . The diesel models are all equipped with a soot particle filter / FAP .

Registration numbers
Since the market launch up to and including December 2019, 179,876 first-generation Duster have been newly registered in the Federal Republic of Germany. 2019 was the most successful sales year with 30,698 units.
Automobile racing
Ice races
As a marketing campaign, Alain Prost took part in the Trophée Andros ice racing series in December 2009 with a racing version of the Dacia Duster that was heavily modified by Renault Sport . After a total of 13 races, Prost finished the racing series on January 30, 2010 as runner-up.
Aïcha des Gazelles rally
At the Aïcha des Gazelles rally in the Moroccan desert , the Dacia Duster was the first car to cross the finish line in the crossover category with drivers Dounia and Isabelle in 2010. The identically constructed second vehicle, with drivers Nathalie and Dorothée, took fifth place.
Pikes Peak International Hill Climb
The Frenchman Jean-Philippe Dayraut , four-time winner of the Trophée Andros ice racing series, took third place on June 26, 2011 with a Dacia Duster prototype with over 625 kW (850 hp) at the Pikes Peak hill climb in the USA.
Concept vehicle
A concept vehicle of the same name was presented by Renault Design Central Europe at the 2009 Geneva Motor Show . It was Dacia's first crossover concept and had no technical or visual similarities with the production version. The vehicle had a length of 4.25 m, a height of 1.49 m, a width of 1.64 m and a wheelbase of 2.8 m and weighed around 1300 kg.
design
The vehicle is intended to combine the classes of a sporty coupé with a station wagon. This result was the collaboration between Renault Design Central Europe (based in Bucharest ) and Renault Design Technocentre (based in Guyancourt ).
From the outside there was a wide front apron with two air inlets and headlights that went over the side to almost the doors that were hinged in opposite directions. The exterior mirrors were right on the door. The roof was completely glazed and offered a lot of light in the interior. A new seating concept offered a trunk volume of 470 liters; if the rear seats were slid under the front seats, the trunk could provide 1.4 m³ of volume.
drive
The engine of the vehicle was taken over by a 1.5 dCi common rail diesel with 105 PS (77 kW) with a particle filter and a manual six-speed gearbox. Due to the body design, the vehicle had a c w value of 0.30. The total consumption was given as 5.3 liters / 100 km, which corresponds to an emission of 139 g of CO 2 . 4 × 2 or 4 × 4 can be selected as the drive.
Popemobile
In late November 2019 Dacia one for popemobile presented converted Dacia Duster 4WD. The new Popemobile for Pope Francis differs from the standard Duster variants primarily in the large sliding roof in the rear roof area. When this is completely rolled back, a removable glass pulpit can be attached. For this, the body had to be reinforced. This means that the vehicle can be used both for trips after the general audience and for trips by the Pope outside the Vatican. The vehicle is painted white, the colors beige and black are used in the interior. The vehicle has a total of five seats, one particularly comfortable one is in the rear. The body was lowered by three centimeters to make it easier for the Pope to get on. The vehicle was built by Dacia's prototyping department together with the Romanian bodywork company Romturingia .
