Foundations
The following German cities were founded in the 20th century :
- 1907 Lohne (Oldenburg) , separation of the city from the rural community
- 1919 Zella-Mehlis , formed from the municipality of Zella St. Blasii and the city of Mehlis
- 1920 Neusalza-Spremberg , after the small town of Neusalza had been united with the parent community of Spremberg, ministerial approval from the Free State of Saxony on February 15
- 1921 Freital , from the communities Deuben , Döhlen and Potschappel formed
- 1923 Falkensee , formed from the municipalities of Seegefeld and Falkenhagen
- 1924 Neugersdorf , the industrial village was granted town charter on December 15, 1924, since January 1, 2011 in merger with Ebersbach / Sa. united city of Ebersbach-Neugersdorf
- 1925 Ebersbach / Sa. , City charter of the industrial village on February 5, 1925, since January 1, 2011 in merger with Neugersdorf city Ebersbach-Neugersdorf
- 1926 Castrop-Rauxel is formed on April 1st from parts of the city of Castrop and the Rauxel office
- 1929 Wuppertal , Association of Cities Barmen , Elberfeld , Ronsdorf , Vohwinkel and Cronenberg .
- 1930 Leverkusen is formed on April 1, 1930 from the city of Wiesdorf and the communities of Schlebusch, Steinbüchel and Rheindorf
- 1934 Kressbronn am Bodensee , merging of the offices of Hemigkofen and Nonnenbach
- 1938 City of the KdF car ( Wolfsburg )
- 1938 Babelsberg as a merger of the city of Nowawes and the community of Neubabelsberg ( incorporated in Potsdam in 1939 )
- 1938 Kelkheim (Taunus) , founded from three communities
- 1938 Kühlungsborn , amalgamation of the municipalities of Brunshaupten and Arendsee
- 1938 Wernau (Neckar) , merger of two communities
- 1940 Wendlingen am Neckar , merger of two communities
- 1945 / 46 have been displaced cities Geretsried , Neutraubling , Traunreut , Wahlstedt and Waldkraiburg on the grounds of a former ammunition institutions founded or explosives factories
- 1945 Torgelow , May 4th, city elevation by the Soviet city command, urk. First mentioned in 1270, 1281
- 1950 Limbach-Oberfrohna is formed from the towns of Limbach and Oberfrohna
- 1953 Stalinstadt ( merged with Fürstenberg (Oder) to form Eisenhüttenstadt in 1961 )

- 1966 Bergkamen , founded from five municipalities, in 1968 a sixth was added
- 1966 Eggesin , town charter and coat of arms on August 7, 1966, urk. First mentioned in 1216 as villa Gizin
- 1969 Kreuztal , founded from twelve communities
- 1969 Lennestadt
- 1969 Lahnstein , amalgamation of the previously independent towns Nieder- and Oberlahnstein
- 1969 wages , founded from five municipalities
- 1970 Meerbusch , founded from eight villages
- 1970 Norderstedt , founded from four communities
- 1970 Schwalmstadt , union of Treysa and Ziegenhain
- 1970 Nettetal , merger of the municipalities of Leuth , Breyell and Hinsbeck and the cities of Kaldenkirchen and Lobberich
- 1971 Taunusstein , founded from six communities
- 1971 Rödental , founded from six communities
- 1971 Kraichtal , newly founded from two cities and seven other municipalities
- 1972 Freiberg am Neckar , re-establishment from three municipalities and awarding of city rights in 1982
- 1972 Villingen-Schwenningen , from the two towns of Villingen and Schwenningen
- 1972 Oestrich-Winkel is founded on July 1st from the communities of Oestrich, Mittelheim and Winkel
- 1973 Schrozberg , re-establishment from one town and five other communities
- 1974 Seifhennersdorf , granting of municipal rights to the industrial village, first documented mention in 1352
- 1974 Maintal , founded from four communities
- 1975 Aichtal , founded from a town and two other communities
- 1975 Albstadt , re-establishment from the cities of Ebingen and Tailfingen and other communities
- 1975 Selm , founded from two municipalities and granted city rights in 1977
- 1975 Filderstadt , new foundation from five municipalities
- 1975 Ostfildern , new foundation from four municipalities
- 1975 Leinfelden-Echterdingen , re-establishment from a city and three other communities
- 1975 Vogtsburg im Kaiserstuhl , re-establishment from one town and five other communities
- 1976 Weinstadt , newly founded from four communities
- 1977 Dreieich , merger of the cities of Dreieichenhain and Sprendlingen and three other municipalities
- 1977 Mörfelden-Walldorf , merger of the cities of Mörfelden and Walldorf
- 1977 Rödermark , new establishment from the merger of Ober-Roden and Urberach and awarding of town charter in 1980
- 1977 Rodgau , newly founded from five municipalities and granted city rights in 1979
- 1977 Lahn , re-establishment from the cities of Gießen and Wetzlar and 14 municipalities (dissolved in 1979)
