For the Scottish family of Douglas see Earl of Douglas, Earl of Angus or House of Douglas.

Douglas (occasionally spelled Douglass) is a common surname of Scottish origin, thought to derive from the Gaelic Dubh Glas, meaning Black or Black/Green Water, referring to locations either at Douglas in Scotland or Douglas in Ireland.

Douglas is also used as a masculine given name. It is often shortened to "Doug".
