The Austrian soccer championship was held for the 99th time in 2010/11 . The top division is the Austrian Bundesliga , which is held for the 37th time this season and is contested by ten teams . These determine the Austrian soccer champion in four rounds . It started on July 17, 2010 and ended on May 25, 2011 with the 36th and final round.
In the top division, the Bundesliga , three international starting places are played; the champions are entitled to participate in the qualification for the UEFA Champions League , the club placed second and third play in the qualification for the UEFA Europa League . The last placed must be relegated to the second-rate first division .
In the First League, ten teams play in four rounds and 36 rounds for a promotion place in the Bundesliga. The team placed last has to be relegated to the respective regional leagues, the penultimate team has to play two relegation games against the champions of the Regionalliga Ost.
In the three regional leagues East, Middle and West, two rounds are played for promotion to the first division. Two of the three teams can qualify. In the 2010/11 season, the champions of the Regionalliga West will meet the champions of the Regionalliga Mitte and the champions of the Regionalliga Ost will meet the second-bottom of the first division. Unless other regulations result from the relegated teams, three teams must relegate to the fourth performance class.
Licensing process
On May 3, 2010, the Bundesliga awarded the licenses for the 2010/11 championship. With the exception of the Bundesliga club SK Austria Kärnten , the first league clubs FC Lustenau and FC Dornbirn and the candidate for promotion from the regional league center Blau-Weiß Linz , all license applicants met the requirements. The application of the Grazer AK was rejected as intended due to the bankruptcy proceedings. In the second instance, on May 14, 2010, the protest committee of the Bundesliga decided that FC Lustenau would also receive the license, while SK Austria Kärnten and FC Dornbirn were still refused. The protest by FC Blau-Weiß Linz was rejected.
On May 25, 2010, Dornbirn announced that it would not appeal to the Permanent Neutral Court of Arbitration . The relegation to the Regionalliga West was irrevocable. If the club had been granted the license by appeal by the Permanent Neutral Arbitration Court and at the same time SK Austria Kärnten had been denied the license in a third instance, FC Dornbirn could still have escaped immediate relegation. On May 28, 2010, the request of the Carinthians at the Permanent Neutral Arbitration Court was actually not granted. This was a double stroke of fate for the club, which was already badly hit financially, because in addition to the forced relegation to the Central Regionalliga, it was immediately free of charge for all players with professional status.
First performance level - Bundesliga
Clubs of the tipp3 Bundesliga 2010/11 |
The Bundesliga, supported by the sports betting provider tipp3 as the main sponsor, is the top division in Austrian football and will be played for the 91st time in the 2010/11 season. The sub-sponsor is the mobile operator T-Mobile Austria , which is why the official league name is tipp3-Bundesliga powered by T-Mobile . After two years, the newly promoted FC Wacker Innsbruck is back in Austria's top division. The Innsbruckers replace the relegated SK Austria Kärnten .
With the exception of Vorarlberg and Carinthia , all Austrian federal states are represented in the Bundesliga. Vienna , Upper Austria and Styria each provide two clubs.
The TV provider sky Deutschland AG has the rights to show all Bundesliga games in full length that are broadcast on pay TV on the sky sport austria channel. For the first time, the broadcaster will not only show all the games in the familiar conference call, but also as individual games. In addition, ORF has the rights to broadcast the “top game of the round” as a single game - mostly on Sundays, and Wednesdays in the case of weekday rounds. This rule does not apply to the last two rounds in which all games must be played at the same time. In addition, the ORF is allowed to show a 45-minute summary of the remaining four games per round. Private television broadcaster Servus TV came away empty-handed in the negotiations.
mode
In the 2010/11 season, as in previous years, ten clubs will compete against each other in a total of 36 rounds. The draw will be canceled after the 9th and 27th round. Each team thus plays at home and twice away against every other team.
The champions are entitled to participate in the qualification for the 2011/12 UEFA Champions League , the clubs that placed second and third as well as the ÖFB Cup winners are entitled to compete in the 2011/12 UEFA Europa League qualification. If the cup winner is also Austrian champion, the loser in the cup final starts in the Europa League. If the cup winner is in second or third place in the championship, the second starting place in the Bundesliga for the Europa League goes to fourth place in the table. The tenth placed must relegate to the second highest division, the first division .
Seasonal course and highlights
The championship began with a bang, because SC Magna Wiener Neustadt was the first championship leader after a 5-0 (5-0) victory over LASK Linz. How it came about was extremely curious, because three of the five goals were penalties , with a fourth penalty being awarded 130 seconds after the start of the game. In addition, two Linzers had to leave the field with the red card. All five goals, all four penalties and the two dismissals took place in the first half; a new Bundesliga record. All four penalties awarded by referee Alexander Harkam were justified, as were the two expulsions. The fact that LASK supporters stormed onto the field twice to oppose their own team and the game was about to be abandoned was the negative highlight of the season opener. As a result, LASK Linz applied for stadium bans for 17 fans from the Bundesliga. Unexpected came the clear 4-0 victory of the promoted FC Wacker Innsbruck against SK Rapid Wien. The Innsbruckers, who have not won the last 16 duels in a row against the record champions, successfully reported back to the Bundesliga with this runaway victory. In Innsbruck, too, after the end of the game, there were riots between both fan groups and arrests in the Tivoli Stadium .

Second performance level - First League
Clubs of the ADEG First League 2010/11 |
The first league is the second highest division in Austrian professional football and will be played for the 36th time in the 2010/11 season. The previous name sponsor of the First League, the ADEG , which has supported the competition since the 2008/09 season, has not renewed its contract, which means it is currently without a sponsor. After the Bundesliga relegated SK Austria Kärnten was refused the Bundesliga license for economic reasons for the 2010/11 season, First Vienna FC 1894 , which had taken the penultimate relegation place, was allowed to remain in the first division without relegation. For the newly promoted from the Regionalliga West, SV Grödig , who returned to the First League only a year after his relegation, the relegation was also omitted. Between the qualifiers of the regional leagues east ( SC-ESV Parndorf 1919 ) and middle ( WAC / St. Andrä ) there were two qualifying games, which the WAC / St. Andrä won with a total score of 4: 2.
In the 2010/11 season, Vorarlberg has no fewer than three clubs, Lower Austria and Styria each have two clubs, Vienna, Carinthia and Salzburg one club each. Burgenland, Tyrol and Upper Austria are not represented in the second highest division.
As in the Bundesliga, the television rights belong to the broadcaster sky Deutschland AG, which is allowed to show every game in full. It will be broadcast on the pay-TV channel sky sport austria and as part of a conference call with four games that start at 6:30 p.m. Exceptions are the last two rounds, in which all games have to be played at the same time, sky may also choose a game that will be broadcast as the "top game of the round" as a single game on Friday at 8:30 pm. Also, the ORF has the right live the top game of the round and broadcast in full. This is done via the ORF Sport Plus channel .
mode
In the 2010/11 season, which starts with five games on July 13, 2010, only ten clubs will compete against each other in a total of 36 rounds due to the reform of the First League. The championship ends on May 27, 2011.
The league champion is promoted to the Bundesliga . The last placed in the first division must be relegated to the regional division corresponding to his region . This will be replaced by the winner of the two qualifying games between the champions of the regional leagues West and Middle. The table penultimate has to play two relegation games against the champions of the Regionalliga Ost. The winner of the relegation matches is qualified for the first division of the 2011/12 season.

Third level - regional leagues
mode
The regional leagues east, west and middle form the third level in Austrian football. The Regionalliga Ost is formed by the clubs of the Vienna , Lower Austria and Burgenland Football Associations. The Regionalliga Mitte consists of clubs from the Upper Austrian , Carinthian and Styrian Football Associations. The Regionalliga West is made up of clubs from the Salzburg , Tyrol and Vorarlberg football associations.
In each of these three leagues, one relegation place for the first division is played; A license from Senate 5 of the Bundesliga is a prerequisite for any promotion.
The three worst-placed teams in the regional leagues must relegate to the fourth level. If several clubs in the first division are relegated to the same regional league, the number of relegated teams increases in this division. For example, if two clubs that belong to the regional associations of the Central Regionalliga have to relegate from the second level, four teams must relegate in the Central Regionalliga.
Regional League East
General
Last season, due to the league reform of the first division - reduction to ten teams, whereby the second teams of a professional club are only allowed up to the third level - the FK Austria Wien II (amateurs) had to relegate from the first division to the Regionalliga Ost.
The 1. SC Sollenau (from the Landesliga Niederösterreich ), the SC Columbia Floridsdorf (from the Wiener Stadtliga ) and the SC Ritzing (from the Landesliga Burgenland ) were added to the Regionalliga . While SC Ritzing, who played in the Eastern League from 2004/05 to 2006/07 , already has regional league experience, this is new territory for 1. SC Sollenau and SC Columbia Floridsdorf, as these clubs have never been represented in the regional league. The Regionalliga Ost now has seven teams from the Vienna Football Association , five teams from the Burgenland Football Association and four teams from the Lower Austrian Football Association ; This is because the city of Schwechat belongs to the federal state of Lower Austria, but the SV Schwechat club is part of the Vienna Association.

Regional league middle
General
After the Bundesliga relegated SK Austria Kärnten was denied the license for the First League, the Carinthians should have been relegated directly to the Regionalliga Mitte. However, due to bankruptcy, gaming operations could not be continued. Since no Carinthian club wanted to fill the freed-16th place in the regional center, the second team of the rose in its place LASK Linz in second place of the division of Upper Austria to the Regionalliga Mitte.
From this season on, SC St. Stefan im Lavanttal will play in a syndicate with SK Austria Klagenfurt, which was founded in 2007 .
In addition to the second team of LASK Linz, Union Vöcklamarkt (from the Upper Austria regional league), SV Gleinstätten (from the Styrian regional league ) and SV Feldkirchen (from the Carinthian regional league ) were new to the league. The Regionalliga Mitte thus includes seven teams from the Styrian Football Association , six teams from the Upper Austrian Football Association and three teams from the Carinthian Football Association .

Regionalliga West
General
In the last season, due to the league reform of the first division - reduction to ten teams, whereby the second teams of a professional club are only allowed up to the third level - the FC Red Bull Salzburg II (amateurs) had to join the Regional League West from the first division descend. Also from the first league had to go to FC Dornbirn after only one season , which only reached tenth place and which was also refused the license for the 2010/11 season by the Bundesliga.
The SV Austria Salzburg (from the Landesliga Salzburg ), the FC Union Innsbruck (from the Landesliga Tirol , which it won as SVG Reichenau / Union 1b ) and the FC Höchst (from the Landesliga Vorarlberg ), which only a year after his relegation to the Regionalliga West returns. In order for FC Union Innsbruck to be promoted, the previous syndicate with SVG Reichenau, which is already represented in the Regionalliga West, had to be dissolved. This means that the Regionalliga West has six teams from the Salzburg Football Association and six teams from the Tyrolean Football Association - half of them, namely FC Wacker Innsbruck II, SVG Reichenau and FC Union Innsbruck from the state capital - while five teams from the Vorarlberg Football Association participate.

Relegation
In the new class reform of 2009 it was decided that the champions or promotion candidates of the regional leagues must play relegation games together with the ninth place in the First League to stay or be promoted to the First League. A changing mode of the relegation games was agreed for the regional league teams. Accordingly, the Regionalliga West had to compete against the ninth placed in the First League and the Regionalliga East against the Regionalliga Mitte this season.
In the first pairing, the ninth place in the First League, First Vienna FC 1894, had to play against the champions of the Regionalliga Ost, SC-ESV Parndorf 1919, as in the previous year.

In the second pairing, the promotion candidates of the regional leagues west and middle had to play for promotion to the first division. It is a bit strange that in the second year neither of the two teams became champions in their leagues. The FC Blau-Weiß Linz came as runner-up of the Regionalliga West because champion LASK Linz II was not allowed to be promoted as the second team of a Bundesliga club. WSG Wattens came into the relegation as runner-up, also because Red Bull Juniors is the second team in a Bundesliga club.

referee
On May 31, 2010, the referee committee of the ÖFB determined the game masters for the 2010/11 season. A total of 25 Austrian referees and 4 Swiss referees were used in the two top divisions. The Bundesliga games were led by a total of 16 Austrian and four Swiss referees. Only 9 referees were qualified for the first division. In the Bundesliga, Christian Dintar and Manuel Schüttengruber were added to the existing referees from last season . The rise of Manuel Schüttengruber in particular was remarkable, as he only came into the first division last season. Since at the end of 2010, Dietmar Drabek and Louis Hofmann, two referees retired for reasons of age and the performance of the referees used last season was satisfactory, no gradations were made. In the first division, three new game masters were added: Andreas Heiss , Bernd Hirschbichler and Harald Ruiss . The average age in the Bundesliga was 36.4 years and in the first division 32.7 years.
Most arbitrators were provided by the Upper Austria Regional Association (5), followed by Salzburg, Styria, Vorarlberg, Vienna (3 each) and Burgenland, Carinthia, Lower Austria and Tyrol (2 each).
