The Haskell County is a county in the state of Texas of the United States . The county seat is in Haskell .

The county is located north of the geographic center of Texas, about 100 km from the Oklahoma border and has an area of ​​2358 square kilometers, of which 19 square kilometers are water. It is bordered by counties in a clockwise direction: Knox County , Throckmorton County , Shackelford County , Jones County, and Stonewall Counties .

history

Haskell County was formed on February 1, 1858 from parts of Fannin County and Milam County . The administrative organization was completed on January 13, 1885. It was named after Charles Ready Haskell (1817–1836). Haskell was from Tennessee , served as a volunteer in the Texan War of Independence, and was captured during the Battle of Coleto . During the subsequent Goliad massacre on March 27, 1836, he was executed like hundreds of other prisoners of war.
