Lawrence of Rome Church

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Laurentiuskirche or Lorenzkirche or simply St. Laurentius or St. Lorenz is the name of numerous churches that are consecrated to St. Laurentius of Rome or named after him.

background

Many Laurentius churches belonged to the churches of triumph and thanks that Otto I had built after his historic victory on the Lechfeld over the Hungarians . Before the battle on August 10, 955, the name day of St. Laurentius, vowed that in case of victory he would have churches built in honor of the saint. In the 10th and 11th centuries there was a wave of founding such as St. Churches dedicated to Laurentius.
