List of the families of the city of Bern eligible for regiment until 1798
The families of Bern who were de iure elected to the Grand Council of the City and Republic of Bern are designated as genders capable of regimentation . In fact, the number of effectively ruling families (the actual, but legally not anchored patriciate ) was continuously reduced in the course of the 18th century. The privilege of regimental capacity ceased in 1798 with the conquest of Bern by Napoleon Bonaparte .
