The Marion County is a county in the US state of Texas . The county seat is in Jefferson .

The county is located in northeast Texas on the Louisiana border and about 6 miles from the Arkansas border . It has an area of 1089 square kilometers, of which 101 square kilometers are water. It is bordered by the following counties and parishes:

history
Marion County was formed on February 8, 1860 from parts of Cass County. It was named after Francis Marion (1732–1795), a general in the American Revolutionary War nicknamed "Swamp Fox" and a member of the South Carolina Senate .
18 structures and sites in the county are listed on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) as of March 17, 2020, including the Alley-Carlson House , the Jefferson Historic District, and the Old US Post Office and Courts Building .
