The Tyler County is a county in the state of Texas of the United States . The county seat is Woodville . The county is part of the dry counties , which means that the sale of alcohol is restricted or prohibited.

The county is located in east Texas, about 25 miles to the east from Louisiana and about 50 miles to the south from the Gulf of Mexico . It has an area of 2423 square kilometers, of which 33 square kilometers are water. It is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Angelina Counties , Jasper Counties , Hardin Counties , and Polk Counties .
history
Tyler County was formed in 1846 from parts of Liberty County . It was named after John Tyler , the 10th President of the USA.

As of the 2000 census , Tyler County had 20,871 people in 7,775 households and 5,675 families. The population density was 9 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 83.79 percent white, 11.96 percent African American, 0.43 percent Native American, 0.20 percent Asian, 0.02 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 2.49 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 1.11 percent were descended from two or more races. 3.56 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 7,775 households, 29.7 percent had children or young people living with them. 60.1 percent were married couples living together, 10.0 percent were single mothers and 27.0 percent were non-families. 24.3 percent were single households and 12.4 percent had people aged 65 or over. The average household size was 2.48 and the average family size was 2.94 people.
23.2 percent of the population was under 18 years old, 8.0 percent between 18 and 24, 27.2 percent between 25 and 44, 23.8 percent between 45 and 64 and 17.8 percent were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 39 years. For every 100 females there were 106.9 males and for every 100 females age 18 or over there were 108.2 males.
The median income for a household in the county is $ 29,808 , and the median income for a family is $ 35,195. Males had a median income of $ 31,797 versus $ 19,594 for females. The per capita income was $ 15,367. 12.6 percent of families and 15.8 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
