The Trinity County is a county in the state of Texas of the United States . The county seat is Groveton .
geography
The county is located in east Texas and is approximately 120 km to the east from the Louisiana border. It has an area of 1849 square kilometers, of which 55 square kilometers are water. It is bordered in a clockwise direction by the following counties: Angelina County , Polk County , San Jacinto County , Walker County, and Houston County .
history
Trinity County was formed from parts of Houston County in 1850. It was named after the Trinity River .

As of the 2000 census , Trinity County had 13,779 people in 5,723 households and 4,000 families. The population density was 8 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 83.75 percent white, 11.92 percent African American, 0.41 percent Native American, 0.23 percent Asian, 0.01 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 2.66 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 1.01 percent were descended from two or more races. 4.85 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 5,723 households, 25.7 percent had children or young people living with them. 55.1 percent were married couples living together, 11.2 percent were single mothers and 30.1 percent were non-families. 26.8 percent were single households and 14.6 percent had people aged 65 or over. The average household size was 2.38 and the average family size was 2.85 people.
22.9 percent of the population was under 18 years old, 7.0 percent between 18 and 24, 22.3 percent between 25 and 44, 25.8 percent between 45 and 64 and 22.0 percent were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 43 years. For every 100 females there were 93.6 males and for every 100 females age 18 or over there were 90.7 males.
The median income for a household in the city is $ 27,070 , and the median income for a family is $ 32,304. Males had a median income of $ 27,518 versus $ 21,696 for females. The per capita income was $ 15,472. 13.2 percent of families and 17.6 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
