The Harrison County is a county in the US state of Texas . The county seat is in Marshall .

The county is located in east Texas on the border with Louisiana and has an area of 2,370 square kilometers, of which 42 square kilometers are water. It is bordered by the following counties and parishes:

history
Harrison County was formed on January 28, 1839 from parts of Shelby County . The administrative organization was completed on June 18, 1842. It was named after Jonas Harrison (1777-1837). He was a lawyer and banker in the Michigan Territory until it was ruined in 1819 . In 1820 he emigrated to Texas and got involved in the independence movement.

The racial the population was composed of 68.6 percent white, 21.9 percent African American, 0.7 percent Native American, 0.5 percent Asian and other ethnic groups; 1.7 percent were descended from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 11.1 percent of the population.
