The Liberty County is a county in the state of Texas of the United States . The county seat is in Liberty .
geography
The county is located in east Texas, about 50 km from Louisiana , 40 km from the Gulf of Mexico and is part of the Houston metropolitan area . It has an area of 3046 km², of which 43 km² are water. It is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Polk County , Hardin County , Jefferson County , Chambers County , Harris County , Montgomery County, and San Jacinto Counties .
history
Liberty County was formed as the original county on March 17, 1836. It was named after the city and later the county seat of Liberty . In 1831, in Mexico, it was given the name Villa de la Santissima Trinidad de la Libertad ("City of the Most Holy Trinity of Freedom"), which was soon shortened to Liberty and Americanized . Also, many of the county's settlers were from the city of Liberty, Mississippi .

Six structures and sites in the county are listed on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) as of March 15, 2020, including the Liberty County Courthouse , the Cleveland-Partlow House, and the State Highway 3 Bridge at the Trinity River .

According to the 2000 census , Liberty County had 70,154 people in 23,242 households and 17,756 families. The population density was 23 inhabitants per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 78.90 percent white, 12.82 percent African American, 0.47 percent Native American, 0.32 percent Asian, 0.03 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 6.03 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 1.43 percent were descended from two or more races. 10.92 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 23,242 households, 38.1 percent had children or young people living with them. 60.5 percent were married couples living together, 11.4 percent were single mothers, and 23.6 percent were non-families. 20.4 percent were single households and 8.9 percent had people aged 65 or over. The average household size was 2.80 and the average family size was 3.23 people.
27.6 percent of the population was under 18 years old, 9.2 percent between 18 and 24, 31.6 percent between 25 and 44, 21.4 percent between 45 and 64 and 10.3 percent were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 34 years. For every 100 females there were 95.7 males and for every 100 females age 18 or over there were 92.4 males.
The median income for a household in the city was $ 38,361 , and the median income for a family was $ 43,744. Males had a median income of $ 37,957 versus $ 22,703 for females. The per capita income was $ 15,539. 11.1 percent of families and 14.3 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
