overview

For the first time, the World Athletics Championships took place two years after the previous event. This event cycle was then retained. In each of the years with odd numbers between the Olympic Games and the European Athletics Championships , these world championships were held, which means that a special international highlight was on the program for the athletes each year.

Sweden hosted the World Athletics Championships for the first time and so far only.

Competitions

In the women's program, the 3,000-meter run was replaced by the 5,000-meter race .

Otherwise there were no changes in the competition offer.

So for the women there were still deficits compared to the men’s competitions.

  • Run area:
  • Walking area:

  • In the jump area, one discipline was still missing in the women's program:
  • One discipline was also missing in the area of impact / throw:

At the beginning of the competition the referees accidentally only let the women run three instead of the four scheduled rounds in the stadium. The route was therefore 400 meters too short. Thus, the achievements were not ready for record or best list. However, this had no consequences for the world championship record , because the time of the winner Maria Manuela Machado was 22 seconds slower than the existing world championship record.
